It’s a good idea to have them professionally installed if you can, because it’s difficult to tell where you’re pulling hair from and how much you’ve gathered, This could result in feathers that don’t stay put or feel uncomfortable in your hair. However, you can install them yourself with practice.
Here are easy to follow instructions for how to put feather extensions in your hair:
- Gather your supplies. You will need micro beads (also known as micro links), a threading needle, a crimping tool or needle nose pliers, and your feathers, of course.
- Push one micro bead onto the threading needle.
- Grab about 1/8 inch of hair somewhere close to your part and pull the hair through the middle of the threading needle.
- Push the bead off the hook and onto your hair.
- Hold the bead in place near the scalp. Insert 1-5 feathers into the bead. Make sure the tip of the feathers sticks out the other side of the bead slightly to ensure proper grip.
- Use the crimping tool or pliers to squeeze the bead until it flattens entirely, clasping the hair and feathers tightly inside.
- Repeat this procedure to add other sections, as desired.
Another alternative is to use feather hair clips. These clip easily into the hair in seconds, and they make it easy to take them out whenever you want. These clips generally cost about $20 to $50, and they will allow you to wear the feathers whenever you want, removing them when you need to. This is great for people who have jobs or schools that won’t allow these extensions.
